What is net salary?
Net salary is the amount paid to the employee after the SGK employee premium, unemployment insurance employee premium, income tax and stamp tax are deducted from the gross salary. The minimum wage income tax and stamp tax exemptions are offset against these deductions.
What is gross salary?
Gross salary is the pay amount before statutory deductions. It is the starting point of the net salary calculation; SGK premiums, income tax and stamp tax are all calculated from this amount.
How is net salary calculated?
The calculation is performed in the following order:
1Gross Salary
2Premium Base Earnings Check
3SGK Employee Premium
4Unemployment Insurance Employee Premium
5Income Tax Base
6Cumulative Income Tax Base
7Income Tax Schedule

12Net Salary
Net Salary = Gross Salary − SGK Employee Premium − Unemployment Insurance Employee Premium − Income Tax − Stamp Tax. The final net salary is calculated after the exemptions are deducted from the relevant items.
What is the SGK deduction?
The SGK (Social Security Institution) employee premium and the unemployment insurance employee premium are calculated on premium base earnings. Premium base earnings are the lower of the gross salary and the premium base earnings (PEK) ceiling for the relevant period.

How is income tax calculated?
The income tax base is found by deducting the SGK employee premium and the unemployment insurance employee premium from the gross salary. The tax is calculated on the cumulative base accumulated since the beginning of the year according to the income tax schedule. As a result, the net salary calculated for the same gross salary may differ between January and December.

What is the minimum wage exemption?
The income tax and stamp tax calculated on the minimum wage in effect for the relevant period are deducted from the employee's income tax and stamp tax as an exemption. The income tax exemption is the income tax corresponding to the amount found by deducting the SGK and unemployment insurance employee premiums from the minimum wage.
